Christmas 2018

On Friday December 21st families and friends of Cloontagh NS were invited to the school for our Christmas plays. The children from the Junior room did a lovely performance of the Nativity. Everyone did a really good job and acted their part really well. They all spoke confidently and clearly and they sang like little angels. We were all very proud of them.

Then the audience was treated to a play about Mr. Scrooge the mean teacher. Judging by the performances we might have some budding Hollywood stars in Cloontagh. The children from the Senior room gave a brilliant performance that included acting, singing and dancing. Well done everyone! It was really enjoyable. And well done to Mrs Smyth for producing such a polished show.

The draw for the Parents Association’s Annual Christmas Raffle took place after the plays. First prize of a fabulous Christmas hamper was donated by the McCausland family. Almost every family in the school donated spot prizes so there were lots to go around. Many thanks to everyone who sold tickets and donated prizes. The money raised from this raffle will go towards the school tour later in the year. The Parents Association also provided refreshments for the adults and treats for the children so that everyone had a chance to sit around and have a chat. Mrs Ferguson said a special word of thanks to Paula Jordan who is stepping down from her role as Chairperson of the Parents Association after many years of tireless service to the school. Paula will remain involved but has decided to hand over the reins to someone else. The Parents Association do great work and it is much appreciated by the school community.

No Christmas celebration would be complete without a visit from the great man himself…Santa. He arrived in style at Cloontagh NS and was welcomed with great excitement.  Santa already knew that all the children in Cloontagh NS have been good all year so everyone told him what they would like for Christmas and he went off back to the North Pole to make sure the elves were getting things right. He assured all the children that he would be visiting again on Christmas Eve.

The staff of Cloontagh NS would like to wish all of the children and their families a happy and safe Christmas. We look forward to seeing everyone back again in the New Year.
