Cloontagh School was one of three picked by librarian Mary Carlton Reynolds to contribute a video to Creative Longford. We were requested to research and celebrate the life of a local hero. We choose Noel Carberry, renowned uileann piper and past pupil . Noel was born and raised one km down the road in Derryhaun.Mrs Smyth and pupils set to work straight away researching the uileann pipes , preparing an interview with Noel and practising a few tunes on the tin whistle . Eamon Brennan , teacher and historian, came to Cloontagh on Noel’s initial visit. We learned lots about the pipes and about the role of the piper in times of war. Multi -talented Noel accompanied our tunes with the bodhrán, We were delighted with the video which was seen by people locally and worldwide. Féach anseo! Brú ar an suíomh seo !
